Hey, it's Jaskirat! I am a third year Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Engineering Student at the University of Toronto.
Currently specializing in the Computer Software stream, I hold strong passion for programming and product development. I am fond of exploring new ideas, and creating software to facilitate problem solving! Apart from being a programming enthusiast, I love being involved in and contributing my time to meaningful initiatives in society.

  • Scotiabank Global Markets | Trade Floor Software Consultant Intern

    May 2020 – Present | Toronto, ON

    • Currently working as an Intern at Scotia Capital’s high performing Trade-Floor Software Tools Development team, where each member works independently on full stack development projects from start to finish with minimal support from other members
    • Individually leading the design, architecture, development, testing, & documentation for Full Stack tools dealing with large datasets, workflow, & advanced intelligent prediction using analytics/machine learning, in a fast-paced development process
    • Developed a tool for bulk editing, and adding equipment to Scotiabank’s trade floor planning map using React, C#, .NET, SQL, with WebMethod APIs, being used by Scotiabank’s 500+ trade floor employees worldwide and receiving positive feedback
    • Coded an intelligent C# system with scheduling ability to import & process secure trade data files from remote to local servers

  • Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) | Software Developer (Co-op)

    May 2019 – August 2019 | Toronto, ON

    • Worked in eBusiness Gateway (eBG) team providing core online banking/transactional functionality with over one million lines of C, JavaScript, and HTML code, with projects affecting millions of RBC Online Banking clients worldwide.
    • Actively contributed towards Agile Kanban working environment through daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and sprint planning
    • Thoroughly involved in planning, architecture & development of a crucial PoC, transitioned major project, for re-platforming Online Banking’s critical financial applications from IBM WebSphere portal to RBC’s in-house operating framework.
    • Wrote code for structuring template-based Left-Hand & Right-Hand navigation panes of Online Banking and for multiple other features in C language, currently deployed to production in first project release serving clients
    • Developed back-end code for populating data layers in RBC’s operating framework, integrating an analytics script called Ensighten, improving Google Analytics rankings, and reducing data fetch time by 30%
    • Developed shell script for automating Dev-Ops of eBG team, by linking Jenkins to Git version control system, reducing time.

  • I Challenge Diabetes Inc. | Front-End Web Developer

    May 2018 – August 2018 | Toronto, ON

    • Effectively led planning, design, and development processes for re-building the company’s official website using Wordpress, HTML5, CSS, PHP, LESS, and Javascript.
    • Actively collaborated with the marketing, and business teams during the planning & design phases as well as during weekly team meetings, while adhering to strict deadlines during the development phase
    • Developed, customized and extended plugins and theme using PHP to meet specific website functionality requirements.
    • Improved User Interface using UX design principles, ensured responsive mobile & tablet compatibility, and optimized the site for search engine using proven techniques. Increased performance on google speed tests by 30%
    • Utilized APIs to integrate applications such as google maps, and to embed real-time Social Media reviews into website.
    • Integrated REST API based WooCommerce for facilitating product sales, and reduced spam blog entries by 90% by integrating Google reCAPTCHA.
    • Deployed an event management system to facilitate online event registrations and API based Stripe payment system using PHP, leading to 30% increase in event registration.

My Projects

  • ReadR (AI based License Plate Detection System) | Developer

    January - May 2020 | UofT, Toronto

    • Worked in a team of 4 to develop a highly accurate License Plate Detection system using PyTorch and NumPy
    • Applied 4-point transform & used OpenCV functions for Character Segmentation from 500+ license plate training set
    • Designed and Coded a Convolutional Neural Network to achieve 98% accuracy on character detection in test dataset

  • AskBruce (Slack Bot)| Developer/Architect

    June 2019 | RBC Innovation Challenge Hackathon, Toronto

    • Collaborated in a team of 2 developers and 3 business analysts, to develop a Slack application with a purpose of streamlining, organizing and fast-tracking the process of asking and answering questions on RBC’s Slack channels.
    • Written in Python and utilizes WebHooks & Slack Web API to create a centralized platform for questions
    • Pitched final product to company’s top executives, and placed fourth for most innovative solution
